Kids College returning in 2025 to provide week of learning and fun

Those looking for some more activities for their children will have just that chance later this summer thanks to Seward County Community College.

SCCC's annual Kids College will take place Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 17, and each day has three sessions – 8 to 9:15 a.m., 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., and then 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Kids College is for children entering first grade through eighth grade and is $25 for each session and for the whole four days. Enrollment begins June 2, and those interested in signing their children up must have a notarized form, and they also need to have their ID and a copy of their insurance card. Coordinator Sarah Thompson said there is a lot to be excited about for this year.

Housing continues to expand with addition of Pancake Flats

Those looking for housing in the area now have a new option.

Pancake Flats Apartments, located at 304 E. Pancake Blvd., officially had its ribbon cutting last week. Petra Chief Development Officer Tylan Dyer said the project has been in the works for more than a year.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the first in a series of stories regarding the May 19 joint meeting between the Liberal City Commission and Seward County Commission to discuss the county’s intention to vacate the 15th Street fire station to relocate to a separate facility on 18th Street. Today’s story tells how the station came to be and the growth of both the Liberal Fire Department and the Seward County Fire Department. Future stories will talk about feedback from commissioners and city and county staff as well as an offer from the city commission to buy out the county’s portion.

Bee Jays secure assistants for upcoming season

The Liberal Bee Jays will have some new faces on its staff for the upcoming season.

Mark Goodman and Jared Bennett will be joining the coaching staff as assistant coaches for the upcoming season, and both of them know the game very well.

Liberal Memorial Library announces slate of events for summer reading

It is officially time for the annual summer reading program at Liberal Memorial Library, and as staff tells it, there will be a lot to do.

This year’s summer reading program theme is “Color Our World”. Sign-ups are currently taking place and the form is available at www.lmlibrary.org and on the Liberal Memorial Library Facebook page.
