AirFair to bring opportunity to SKYDIVE

Those wishing to know what it feels like to fly will soon have just that chance at the Liberal AirFair.

Paradise Skydiving will be offering tandem skydiving Oct. 3 through 5 as part of the Liberal AirFair festivities. There are three packages people can choose from: the Aloha tandem skydive (which includes a jump and freefall from 8,000 feet and costs $245), the Honolulu Package (which includes a jump from 8,000 feet, 200 4K images of the jump, and a professionally edited skydiving video of your jump for a total of $395), and the Waikiki Package (which includes a 10,000 foot jump, the features of the Honolulu Package, and a Paradise Skydiving t-shirt, for a total of $479). There is a $50 deposit required, with the rest of the fee due the day of the jump. People can sign up at paradiseskydiving.com to choose their time, and they must select Liberal for their particular time.

Health fair to provide discounted lab testing

Many events will be taking place around the area Saturday, Oct. 4, some of which include the Liberal AirFair and the Sylvia’s Fragrance of Hope Benefit Gala.

Also taking place that day, Southwest Medical Center will be hosting its 16th annual Community Health Fair from 7 a.m. to noon at the Seward County Activity Center.

SWMC Business Development Manager Rachel Downing said as in the past, visitors to the health fair get general lab testing for $35 and several other lab tests for $7 each.

Heritage Foundation color run kicks off fundraising efforts

The High Plains Heritage Foundation (HPHF) is always looking for ways to help the community, and Saturday night, the group kicked off an upcoming new fund to help with just that.

The foundation hosted its first color run Saturday evening to kick off its new United Play fund, and coordinators said they were very pleased with the event.

“I felt like everything went really well, especially since we had to make a last-minute change due to Friday night's weather,” coordinator Teresa Randle said. “I was really happy to see the community out and supporting our efforts, I especially loved seeing the children run around and get colored up.”

Lifeline program helps Kansans in need stay connected

TOPEKA – Phone and internet services are vital to accessing healthcare and community services, finding employment, and calling for help in an emergency. However, the cost to stay connected is out of reach for many Kansans.

In observance of National Digital Connectivity and Lifeline Awareness Week, Sept. 7 through 13, the Kansas Corporation Commission joins utility regulators nationwide in creating awareness of the program offerings and encourages those in need of assistance to apply.

Lifeline provides combined federal and state discounts of up to $17.02 per month to help pay for residential or wireless phone service, internet, or a bundled phone and internet plan.

Bike-a-thon helps fund clean drinking water worldwide

Sunday afternoon shone clear and bright, and some youths from New Beginnings Church took advantage of the favorable weather to help raise money for a good cause.

Sunday, New Beginnings Church hosted a youth bike-a-thon to help raise money to help others around the world have access to clean drinking water.
