Food and fun will be looking to help enhance this summer in Liberal thanks to the return of a big event.
The 2025 Food Truck Saturdays will take place Saturday, June 28 and Saturday, July 26, with the locations still to be determined.
As coordinator Amanda Devellen tells it, there is a lot of excitement for this coming summer.
A total of 21 runners took part in Saturday’s Pancake Chase 5K Fun Run at the Liberal Recreation Department.
Most of the runners were from Liberal, but Ashley Hedrick of Hooker, Okla., and Jax Heisel and Melissa Manske, who both hail from nearby Kismet, took part in the fun run as well.
Wind gusts and frigid temperatures may have kept the crowd size low, but it may also have helped Pamela Bolivar repeat as the International Pancake Race winner.
Bolivar led from start to finish, leaning in to the first turn at Fifth Street down Kansas Avenue and then gliding to her left down Lincoln Avenue with a stiff breeze at her back.
Tayana Miller turned the corner just behind Bolivar, but the defending champion continued to outpace the field, and with the stiff breeze cruised to victory.
There has been a lot of talk and action recently throughout the U.S. regarding the hot topic of immigration and last week, the Seward County Democratic Party gave a presentation of how those families can be protected.
Seward County Democratic Party Vice Chair Kathleen Alonso was on hand to give the presentation.
The 76th International Pancake Day Eating and Flipping Competitions took place Saturday at the Liberal Recreation Center, with the festivities hosted by Rine’s American Freestyle Karate, McDonalds, and the International Pancake Day Board.
