Pancake Day is rapidly approaching, and the Pancake Day Committee hopes everyone will enjoy the day’s festivities from beginning to end, including the annual parade.

The Pancake Day Parade will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 and  will follow the same route as the 4th of July parade and start at Trail Street and then go north. As Pancake Day General Chair Mike Brack tells it, coordinating this year’s parade almost interfered with another big event.

A Guymon, Okla., man is dead following a fatality accident Friday morning near that Panhandle community.

Around 7:30 a.m. Friday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Peterbilt tractor was eastbound on Texas County Road Y at Mile 30 about one mile south and one mile west of Guymon.

At that time, a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 was northbound on Texas County Road 30, when OHP said the semi struck the driver’s side of the pickup in the intersection for an unknown reason.

After multiple years of not having one in place, City of Liberal staff are now beginning work on putting together a seven-year Capital Improvement Plan to help plan for the future.

Having such a plan in place was discussed at a Feb. 6 special meeting of the Liberal City Commission, and City Manager Scarlette Diseker said having such a plan is important to the health of a community, leading to discussions of bringing it back.

Last year, ground was broken on the Seward County Community College Student Health Center, and last week, that center officially cut the ribbon.

The ribbon-cutting began with some brief remarks from SCCC President Brad Bennett.
