District to continue making summer improvements

The USD 480 school board will have a busy agenda to help continue its summer work at its next meeting Monday evening starting at 6:30. Monday’s meeting will be in Room C107 of the Liberal High School East Campus.

The board will be asked to approve the renew of Canvas learning management system used at the secondary level) for $65,240.18 and a bid from Contract Paper Group in the amount of $26,871.60 for the purchase of copy paper.

Seward Co. works to reduce traffic fatalities with SS4A plan

Certifying Seward County’s commitment to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the county and implementing the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Plan, county commissioners recently voted unanimously to adopt a resolution approving a Vision Zero Policy for the county.

Administrator April Warden said that move came after Seward County had joined local governments in the region, including the cities of Liberal, Oberlin, Oakley, Scott City and Garden City and the counties of Decatur, Logan, Scott, Finney and Haskell in making an application for an SS4A plan.

Riney retiring from insurance agency

C. Dean Riney Insurance

Dennis A. Riney is successfully retiring as an agent for C. Dean Riney Insurance effective July 1.

Dennis started in the insurance business with C. Dean Riney Oct. 1, 1979. He says he has seen a lot of changes in insurance since he first started.

He wishes to thank all of the customers he has had the privilege to work with. The current staff at C. Dean Riney Insurance will continue to service his customers and wish him well in his retirement.

Families looking for travel opportunities in Kansas will soon have just that chance thanks to the Kansas Department of Tourism and its Sunflower Summer Program.

The Sunflower Summer Program will start Saturday, July 12 and run through Sunday, Aug. 3 and as Special Projects Coordinator Rosa Cavazos tells it, there will be a lot to do.
