For more than a century, Girl Scouts across America have been selling cookies to raise money for troop projects and to support troops and councils.

February is here, and soon, young ladies will once again be selling the tasty treats everywhere, including Southwest Kansas, where Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Troop Engagement Specialist Michelle Daniels and Product Program Specialist Jaclyn Vargas are gearing up for this year’s sales.

Daniels said all of the traditional favorite flavors of cookies will be available this year, but 2025 is the swan song for one of the newer flavors.

Emergency response teams are an extremely important source of help when a disaster strikes and recently, Liberal’s Community  Emergency Response Team (CERT) has been working hard training for just that.

Local health officials have identified four cases of active tuberculosis and 98 cases of inactive or latent TB in the last 12 months.

That news came from a press release issued by the Seward County Health Department and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and the release said local testing for TB has been done through doctors offices and at SCHD, along with a local mass testing event in March 2024.

New Beginnings Church

The children’s ministry at New Beginnings Church raised more than $10,000 in 2024 for missions.

Through BGMC (Boys & Girls Missionary Challenge), NBC Kids has helped support missionaries all around the world making sure they have the resources they need to tell people about Jesus.

As a result of hitting their goal, kids got to slime two of the pastors, Lead Pastor Phillip Dow and Children’s Pastor Cody Berntsen.
