Those looking for a fun summer community activity will soon have just that thanks to the Liberal Police Department.

Liberal's Night Out will be Saturday, July 12 at Light Park, and the setup time for the vendors will be announced when it gets closer to that date. Everything will take place from 1 to 7 p.m., and starting at 5 p.m., Maddox Ross and his band will perform. Admission to Adventure Bay Water Park will also be free that day for everyone.

Many aspects of life have come under attack from the Trump Administration since the start of his second term, including the realm of public television.

“NPR and PBS have fueled partisanship and left-wing propaganda with taxpayer dollars, which is highly inappropriate and an improper use of taxpayers’ money, as President Trump has stated,” a May 1 release from WhiteHouse.gov noted. “Unlike in 1967, when the CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) was established, today the media landscape is filled with abundant, diverse, and innovative news options, making government funding of news media outdated, unnecessary, and corrosive to journalistic independence. Moreover, while the CPB is legally mandated to be ‘nonpolitical [in] nature’ and not ‘contribute to or otherwise support any political party,’ both NPR and PBS make significant in-kind contributions to the Democrat party and its political causes ... No media outlet has a Constitutional right to taxpayer subsidized operations, and it’s highly inappropriate for taxpayers to be forced to subsidize biased, partisan content.”

City of Liberal

The City of Liberal will begin its annual street surface maintenance project Monday, June 23. Chip seal will be applied to portions of Southeast Liberal. The overall project is expected to be completed within 14 days, weather permitting.

Residents in affected neighborhoods are reminded to keep vehicles off the streets and avoid sending excess water into the roadway until their street has been completed. Vehicles found in the project area will be towed at the owner’s expense in order to avoid delays to the chip seal process.

Another contest season has come and gone, and the Leader & Times once again came out strong.

The publication ended up with six 1st place finishes, 11 2nd place finishes, and 17 3rd place finishes for a total of 34 awards, and L&T Publisher Earl Watt said he is proud of the results.
