After three years as the head coach of the Liberal Redskin football program, Bryan Luetters announced he would be stepping down from his teaching and coaching positions with Liberal High School.
The announcement came after a successful three-year run that included two post-season playoff victories and back-to-back winning seasons and an overall record of 18-11.
The USD 480 school board heard more about Liberal High School’s FlexMod scheduling to help kick off the board’s 2025 meetings Monday evening.
Up first to speak in favor of FlexMod was LHS junior Arilyn Rich.
An arrest has been made in the alleged death of a Seward County resident that happened last Sunday.
Payton Dangelo Lapoint, 25, had his first appearance in Seward County District Court this morning. He has been charged with second degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
Lapoint was arrested in connection with murder of his father, John Lapoint, Sunday. Sheriff Gene Ward reminded the public all person(s) are presumed innocent until proven in a court of law.
Two Satanta individuals were injured, and a Garden City woman was killed in an accident Friday, Jan. 3, in Finney County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said the accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. Friday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and Parallel Road when a 2019 Ford F550 and 2014 Chevy Equinox were southbound on Hwy. 83.

Having approved more than $425,000 in funding for projects for its Road and Bridge, fire and EMS departments, Seward County commissioners next moved to spending nearly $92,000 in money the county received from the federal American Rescue Plan Act at their Dec. 30, 2024, special meeting.
