Why I support the No Kings protests

I assumed you would want your newspaper to fairly report a story. Your recent article misrepresented those who took part in the largest protest against a president in our nation’s history, No Kings Day.

You said our group supported “open borders and men dressed as women competing against biological women.” No one supports wide open borders, and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t support border security. I don’t think I know of one single person in our crowd who gave much thought to the issues of transgenders that day. I didn’t see you interviewing anyone.

I appreciate Sheryl Hall writing in to share why she believes in the No More Kings movement. It’s important that people who disagree politically can share their different views. It is healthy to be able to respond and react, and I encourage anyone who disagrees with a column to feel free to write a letter to the editor.

There are some areas where I would like to clarify some of Ms.Hall’s statements.

I do a funny thing in the middle of June. I try to celebrate the summer solstice.

I don’t do anything particularly romantic. If you have visions of me leaping over bonfire flames or dancing around a maypole wearing a flower crown or attempting to contact my inner goddess, you would be disappointed.

On June 12, during a House Armed Services Committee hearing, Pete Hegseth said he would obey the Supreme Court but defy lower courts should they order the removal of the military from Los Angeles.

A lower court did just that.

U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles was unconstitutional. Shortly after the ruling, California Governor Gavin Newsom posted a celebratory message to X.
