After researching the life of Jesus and the way He talked with people, I continued with the topic of love. As noted last week, His approach to the multitude was to share the love of God and introduce the Kingdom. Today we'll look at how He loved, and how that love was communicated to others. It may be easy to say, "I love you", but the proof is in the evidence.
Yes, another school year is almost upon us. Summer flies by, doesn’t it? You teachers know exactly what I mean. This really is the calm before the storm, in terms of the education environment. There aren’t a lot of controversies, at least not presently for the coming school year. The districts are flush with cash and, in many cases, still scrambling with what to do with all that pandemic money the feds flooded the economy with.
Fall doesn’t officially start until September, but August is the unofficial end of summer as a new school year begins. Even those of us who don’t have children in school feel the transition as churches, organizations and activities pick back up after a summer break.
Farmers are beginning to transition to fall as well. Our focus begins to move from irrigating crops and checking fields to preparing equipment for harvest and waiting impatiently for crops to dry down for harvest.
I have been blessed with many cousins.
My two cousins closest in age were both boys, Brian and Dane. We went camping and hiking together and stayed in the cabin up north. We all remember the day we made tea from red sumac berries, and—after we’d drunk about a gallon each—my Uncle Mike told us, “You know that stuff is a laxative, don’t you?” (For the record, it is not.)
Remember that guy from Texas who was supposed to be the next senator, and after losing that was going to be the next president, and after losing that was going to be the next governor?
Few remember him now, but his name was Beto O’Rourke.
O’Rourke lost to Ted Cruz in a close race for Senate in 2018, and the addiction to running for office took control of O’Rourke.
