Today brings a compelling conclusion to a three-part overview of the Book of Revelation. The first article dealt with conflicts between good and evil, and deliverance from tribulation. Last week we wrote of the reign of Babylon, contrasted with Christ as king, and a final battle on earth. Today, we reach the final chapters of the Bible, where all things are made new.
I have never been able to watch scary movies.
My mother will remind you (if she gets the chance) that I can’t even watch embarrassing television programs, which is, frankly, embarrassing. I would watch that terrible moment when Lucy was about to get caught doing something embarrassing by her employer, Mr. Mooney, on “The Lucy Show” reruns, and I would have to leave the room in a hurry — making excuses about how I suddenly needed to help set the table. The truth was, I just couldn’t stand to watch Lucy get caught.
Dairy Queen is working with a local franchisee and the City of Liberal on building a new location along Pancake Boulevard, and while that is going to be a great addition to the community, there is some confusion about a specific incentive that was being considered.
A tool already being used to help attract additional growth is called a Community Improvement District, or CID.
What this allows a business to do is make improvements to their location and charge an additional sales tax to help pay for the improvements up to 2 percent.
Although the temperatures outside suggest otherwise, summer is over as the kids have returned to school. While I always miss the extra daily chaos of the kids being home all day during the summer, I also always enjoy a bit of calm during the days following their return to school.
Yes, there are generally a couple days of transition involved as all of our routines return. It’s generally pretty quiet once the kids go back to school, and I think our farm dog, Rosie, and I both recognize the sharp contrast of days full of activities, noise and constant chaos to the calmer, quieter days where we can’t wait for a school bus to appear in the afternoon to welcome our people home.
In the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams,” Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (played wonderfully understated by Kevin Costner) hears a voice say, “If you build it, he will come.” (It is often misquoted as “they will come.”) Unless you’ve been out to lunch for the past 3½ decades, you understand the reference.
Parents who are taking advantage of new and expanded school choice initiatives are having their own Field of Dreams experience. People are scurrying to school choice options like Swifties clamor for tickets to a Taylor Swift concert.
