Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Judy Lathen, RN, MSN, as the hospital’s new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
Lathen brings 39 years of healthcare experience to the position, along with extensive experience in nursing administration, critical and emergency care, and nursing education.
Her longstanding connection to Southwest Medical Center and the communities it serves makes her a familiar and valued member of the SWMC team.
Lathen has been employed at SWMC since 2014, serving in several nursing leadership and clinical roles, including ER nurse, house coordinator, medical/surgical nurse manager and ER nurse manager.
Prior to and throughout her career, Lathen has gained experience with several healthcare organizations, including Seward County Community College, Artesian Valley Health System, and EagleMed.
She holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus in Nursing Education from Aspen University and a bachelor’s degree in business from Friends University.
In her new role as chief nursing officer, Lathen will provide leadership for nursing services at SWMC and support the hospital’s continued commitment to providing safe, compassionate, and high-quality care to patients throughout Southwest Kansas and the surrounding region.
“I have been a team member at SWMC for numerous years, and am honored to continue to serve in this new capacity and to be part of providing exceptional care to the communities we serve,” said Lathen.
A native of Meade, Lathen is married and has two children and three grandchildren.
“Judy has been an important part of the Southwest Medical Center team for many years,” said SWMC CEO Amber Williams. “Her experience, knowledge and commitment to our patients and staff will be a tremendous asset as she steps into this new role.”
