Those looking for some extra help with skin issues now have just that thanks to SkinWin Dermatology at 123 E. 11th Street.
Chief Operations Officer Sarah Krieger said the office has been in the works for a little while.
“The owner is from Denver, and he was doing some work in Fargo, N.D. While he was there, he didn't realize how many people had to travel six-plus hours to get the dermatological care they needed,” Krieger said. “From there, he developed a passion for opening offices in rural areas. Then, when Dr. Kaminski, who used to be here, talked about retiring, we decided that here would be a good place to take over, and we've been around since 2023. We started at Southwest Medical Center, and we eventually decided we wanted our own space, so now we're here. I'm so excited. I'd only seen the property through Facetime calls, so it was it was nice pulling up and seeing that it was exactly what it looked like in the pictures.”
Krieger added it was only somewhat recently when the search for a space became more serious.
“We had been talking about it for a bit, but we were kind of taking our time because we know that stuff doesn’t just happen overnight,” Krieger said. “Then, Southwest Medical Center decided they wanted to use the space that we were in, so they gave us notice of wanting to use our space. That kind of made me speed the process up a little bit, so I got connected with a real estate agent, and she found us this place in like a week. It all the timing worked out incredibly. I really like the centralized location and I feel like it's in a good spot. It's not smack in the middle of town, but it's easy to find and it's around where everything else is. The building itself is also great, there’s a lot of space and it has the right amount of rooms we need, so it worked out really well.”
Krieger then talked about the services offered by SkinWin Dermatology.
“We offer general dermatology, which includes skin exams and biopsies of spots that look concerning, things like that. We do surgical as well – for example, if we do a biopsy and we find out it's a skin cancer or something malignant, we're able to excise that out so you don't have to be referred out to another specialist or clinic,” Krieger said. “We also offer mole surgery, which is for deeper and more delicate areas of skin cancer – for example, if someone has it on their face or their neck or somewhere else that doesn't have a lot of skin, that's when you would do mole surgery. I think it’s great we’re able to offer that here, the nearest mole surgeon is a couple hours away.”
Krieger added she and the building’s staff are excited to be part of the Liberal community. The office is open bi-weekly Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“It's always been so busy in the Liberal office. We were just excited one to be part of the community, but people were totally fine transitioning from Dr. Kaminski's office to our office, and we've never had a problem filling the schedule or finding patients who are excited to be here and get treated with us,” Krieger said. “Within the past couple years, we’ve also started doing the weight loss stuff, and we've had a large amount of patients want to get on GLP-1 thing medications. Our Liberal location has the most skin cancers by far, and I would encourage anybody and everybody to get that full-body skin check. Things you might think are just a mole or just a skin tag, it could be something really concerning. We recommend doing it once a year, unless you're prone to skin cancers, and then we'll do it every three or six months. It’s important to take care of yourself, put your put yourself as a priority and get those skin checks. And they're usually covered by insurance too, which should help. We love being involved in these small communities, so people also shouldn’t hesitate to bring by sponsorship opportunities and things like that. We love sponsoring and being part of the community, so our doors are always open to them.”
