Kansas Department of Transportation
The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing project June 15 on Kansas Highway 25 between Santa Fe Avenue and Washington Avenue in Lakin.
K-25 will be closed between Santa Fe and Washington avenues during construction. Motorists will be directed to follow the signed detour via Bopp Boulevard, West Railroad Avenue and South Bridge Street
The closure is necessary because the railroad crossing within the work zone is not wide enough to accommodate traffic while construction is underway. As a result, traffic cannot be shifted through the work zone requiring a full closure.
Vogts-Parga Construction LLC, of Moundridge, is the contractor for the $1.7 million project. Work is expected to be complete by the end of August, weather permitting.
For more information, contact Heather Jennings, construction manager, at 620-255-2880, or Yazmin Moreno, public information officer, at 620-765-7080.

Trauma, strokes and bike safety are just three of the designations for the month of May, and Southwest Medical Center Trauma Coordinator Katie Coleman said efforts are made year-round to educate the public about these issues.
One of the focuses for April was National Childhood Trauma Month, and Coleman said though adults and children go through the same types of trauma such as motor vehicle accidents, falls and cuts, the difference comes with anatomy.
Likewise, Coleman said emergency room nurses and providers treat trauma differently with children and adults.
