Mary Ann Watson, 77, of Topeka, formerly of Liberal, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026.

She was born March 2, 1949, in Dimmitt, Texas, the daughter of Olin and Leona (Simmons) LaPlant.

She was a 1968 graduate of Liberal High School and attended Emporia State University in Emporia.

She was a member of Friends Church in Liberal.

Mary married Jerry L. Watson Jan. 31, 1976, in Liberal, sharing more than 50 happy years together.  He survives in Topeka.

Other survivors include sons, Brett Watson, Topeka and Jeffery Watson of Lawernce; sister, Linda LaPlant of Ogden, Utah; brother, Dennis LaPlant of Corpus Christi, Texas; and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Larry LaPlant.

Mary loved her family and was very proud of her sons. Her unwavering desire was that they graduate from college, so they could find the careers they loved doing, which they both did.  Sunday breakfast with her family were very special to her. She also enjoyed movies, music, and going to the casino.

• Cremation is planned.
