ULYSSES – Jorge Alonso Heredia, 71, died Monday, March 9, 2026 in Garden City. 

He was born Feb. 4, 1955 to Servando and Marianita Lascano De Heredia.

He grew up in Mexico before moving to Colorado at the age of 15 years old.

He married Frances Acosta in 1975. She survives.

He worked Ulysses where he worked during the Oil Patch Boom of 1979.

He worked for Smyth Oil & Gas and Amoco/BP. After 25 years of hard work and dedication, he retired in 2019 from the Jayhawk Plant.

He was a member of the choir at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses for 15 years.

He enjoyed watching basketball and rooting for his favorite team, the Chicago Bulls.

Survivors also include his children: Juan Heredia and wife, Xochil, George Heredia and wife, Veronica, Jaime Heredia and wife, Tara, Nidia Heredia, and Lolie Betancourt and husband, Jose; brothers: Oscar Heredia, Emigdio Heredia and wife, Adela, and Juan de Dios Heredia and wife, Patricia; sister, Elodia Trejo and husband, Agustin; grandchildren: Isaiah Darnes and wife, Marisol, Janeah Heredia, Christian Heredia, Logan Heredia, Landyn Simon, Briesen Heredia, Jetson Heredia, Alexandra Heredia, Sebastian Heredia, Jonathan Heredia; and great-granddaughter, Sujey Marina Heredia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Servando Heredia and Jose Heredia.

• Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses and from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. March 13, 2026 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Eric Gyamfi presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.
