ULYSSES – James L. “Jim” Walker, 79, died Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. 

He was born Dec. 31, 1946 to Clarence and Pansy (Hartley) Walker.

He was born and raised in Walsh, Colo., where he attended elementary school before moving on to high school in Johnson, and later in Lamar, Colo. Jim earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Fort Hays State University.

From 1966 to 1968, he served his country in the U.S. Army.

He married Betty Jane Neuman in 1970. She preceded him in death.

He retired after 35 years of working at Pioneer Communications as a data processing manager.

He belonged to the American Legion, the Jaycees, and the Ulysses Men’s Golf Association.

He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing and golfing.

Survivors include sons, Jeff Walker and wife, Trisha, and Mike Walker and wife, Michelle; grandchildren: Devin Walker and wife, Morgan, Lance Walker and fiancée Clare, Zachary Walker, Bryant Walker, Emberlyn Walker, Jadin Watt, Aspen Steinbock, and Carter Watt; great-grandson, Liam Walker; and longtime friend and companion, Sharon Nagel.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
