Larry “X Sarge” Hendrickson, 85, died June 18, 2026 at his home in Liberal.
He was born May 17, 1941 to Edward and Lucille (Williams) Hendrickson.
After graduating from high school, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army, beginning a military career that spanned from 1958 until his retirement in 1981. Throughout his years of service, he was stationed in many locations, including Fort Sill, Okla., Germany, and two tours in Vietnam.
After his military retirement, he returned to Liberal and worked for Halliburton, retiring twice.
He was an avid hunter who especially loved his hunting dogs.
He enjoyed watching westerns and cheering on OU football.
He was a member of the American Legion Lawrence M. Wimmer Post #80, the Honors Team, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include son, Samuel Barton, Brookshire, Texas; daughter, Kasey Hendrickson, Lawton, Okla.; grandson, Maxwell Barton; niece, Rita Hutchinson, Overland Park; cousins: Yvette Stark and husband, Paul, and their daughter, Kyra, Lisa Gayle Williams, and Marilyn Shetler and family; and special friends: Pat Howell, Skiatook, Okla., Linda Ann Kirkwood, Liberal, Clifford “Butch” Dick, Liberal, Cel Krause, Lawton, Okla., and Maureen Cooper, Brookshire, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; partner, Marilyn June Phillips; son, Edward Lewis Hendrickson; aunts, Ruth Tittel and Bernice Whelan; cousin, Michael Whelan; and nephew, Ronnie Tittel.
• In accordance with Larry’s wishes, cremation will take place, and he will be laid to rest at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Okla.
