TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Seward County women's soccer team rolled to an 8-0 victory over Trinidad State on Wednesday evening at Central Park. The Lady Saints (2-1) secured their second win in quick succession, ending the match early at the 70-minute mark under the eight-goal mercy rule after taking an 8-0 lead in the 68th minute. Seward wasted little time taking control, scoring seven goals in the opening half. Juliana Salazar paced the attack with a hat trick, while Olja Trivunovic, Luz Felix, Lise Bour, Caroline Benck and Ana Tapuskovic each added a goal. All of Seward's goal scorers except Salazar recorded their first collegiate goals. Christie Kannengiesser played the full match in goal and earned the clean sheet as the Lady Saints kept Trinidad State off the scoreboard. Seward County returned home at 9 a.m. Saturday to host Metropolitan Community College at Redskin Field. The Saints (3-1) carried a 1-0 lead into halftime before adding three more goals after the break to hand the Trojans (0-4) their fourth loss of the season. Joao Dornas opened the scoring in the 30th minute, netting his first collegiate goal off an assist from Enrique Vasquez to give Seward County an early advantage. The Saints took control in the second half behind Tobias Huggins, who scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in a seven-minute span. Huggins found the back of the net in the 53rd and 60th minutes, with Samuel Jimenez assisting on both scores. Jimenez now has four assists this season. Joseph Franklin extended the lead to 4-0 in the 72nd minute, scoring for the third consecutive match. Alessandro Gotelli was credited with the assist on Franklin's third goal of the season. Trinidad State avoided the shutout with its lone goal in the 76th minute. Seward County's defense limited the Trojans' opportunities throughout the match. Nicolas Fonseca played the first half in goal and did not face a shot on target, while Jonathan Wallace handled the second-half duties and made one save. The Saints finished with an 11-7 advantage in shots and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Seward County returnedhome at 11 a.m. Saturday to host Metropolitan Community College at Redskin Field.
