The Seward County baseball team bounced back from two losses on Thursday and earned a doubleheader sweep of the Garden City Broncbusters on Sunday afternoon at Brent Gould Field.
The Saints (17-21, 9-3 KJCCC) and Broncbusters (13-20, 6-10) each earned two wins at home in the series.
Prior to first pitch the Saints held a dedication ceremony as the press box at Brent Gould Field was officially named the Steve Helm press box. There was a cookout prior to the game, and the team, as well as Helm's family, accepted a signed ball from the team on the field.
Seward hosts Colby to open the four-game series with the Trojans on Thursday, first pitch at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Seward 7, Garden City 4 (7 Inn.)
The Saints trailed 4-0 after the top of the third in game one, but used two crooked innings, including three runs in the third and four in the sixth, to earn the 7-4 win in game one.
Garden City's Sean Togher made it 4-0 in the third with a two-run home run. The Saints saw a Juan Alvarez two-run double and an error that scored Alvarez in the third make it a 4-3 game.
Ashton Creighton (W, 2-1) tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in relief of Cosme Vera Jr., as Creighton earned the win with one strikeout and one walk.
Blaine Chancy came through with a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the sixth to give Seward its first lead of the game, 6-4. A Jhett Huffman RBI single made it 7-4. Huffman was the lone Saint with multiple hits in the game as Seward was outhit 7-5.
Game 2: Seward 13, Garden City 7
Seward used 13 runs on 13 hits in game two to complete the Sunday sweep.
Beau Lang (W, 3-2) earned the win with a 6.0 inning outing, allowing five runs on five hits, striking out three, and walking three. Cooper Turner threw 1.1 scoreless innings and Trajan Chavez allowed two runs across 1.2 innings to close things out, also adding two strikeouts.
Seward jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Isai Santaella scored on an error, Grant Cox drove in Juan Alvarez on a single and Ryan Todd drove in two on a two-run double.
An RBI groundout from Hayden Ramage added a run in the botto of the second to make it a 5-0 lead.
Garden City scored five unanswered across the next three innings to tie the game 5-5. The Saints then plated a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and five in the eighth to cruise to the win. Alvarez, David Brabb, Todd and Jacob Urias all drove in runs in the eighth.
Santaella finished 4-5 with three runs scored. Brabb was 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Todd drove in three finishing 2-5.
Sean Togher had four RBI to lead Garden City. The Broncbusters used five pitchers in the game.
