Duerson to take local values to national level with Teen Reach

A native of Southwest Kansas, Chayli Duerson has worked in many different capacities over the years, including as the donor relations director for the Meade-based Christian radio station KJIL.

Duerson has likewise worked as the area coordinator for the Operation Christmas Child holiday shoebox drive, and until recently, she was a member of Liberal’s New Beginnings Church.

Duerson said she simply enjoys helping those in need.

City continues updating floodplain maps

The City of Liberal has been working diligently to update its floodplain maps and Tuesday, the Liberal City Commission got to hear an update on that work.

Plains residents injured in wreck

Two Plains residents were taken to Southwest Medical Center Wednesday afternoon after a pickup struck a semi in eastern Seward County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia was northbound on Seward County Road O shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, and a 2003 Chevy Silverado was westbound on U.S. Highway 54.

Apex looks to unlock the power of hydrogen from Liberal’s wastewater

Apex Clean Energy has worked with many communities throughout the U.S. and could reach an agreement to partner with the City of Liberal in the future.

Kansas Infrastructure Hub announces $1M investment for Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 3

TOPEKA – The Kansas Infrastructure Hub announced this week the Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 3 has secured $1 million to convert more than 59,000 feet of earthen canal to 13,200 linear feet of pipeline in Kearny County.

“Leveraging federal dollars to supplement our state and local investments into critical infrastructure is vital to protecting and extending our state’s water supply,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “These investments ensure our communities have the resources to build, operate, and maintain critical infrastructure.”
