Last Wednesday, at approximately 1:24 p.m., officers with the Liberal Police Department and members of the Kansas Department of Corrections attempted to apprehend a subject with an outstanding warrant in the 1000 block of N. Pershing Ave.
The Liberal City Commission will have a rather light agenda to take on for its next meeting this evening starting at 5:30. Tonight’s meeting will be in the commission chambers in the Liberal Recreation Center at 950 S. Grant Ave.
Up first for the commission will be an update on Resolution 2400, which concerns an abatement on a property at 809 N. Pennsylvania Ave. This had been discussed at the commission’s March 14 meeting.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has begun an intersection improvement project at the U.S. Highway 54/U.S. Highway 283 intersection in Minneola.
The intersection will be surfaced with concrete pavement and will improve traffic flow. Hwy. 54 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction at the intersection.
An agriculture pathway at Liberal High School took a big step forward thanks to the USD 480 school board at its most recent meeting Monday evening.
For the agenda’s penultimate item of new business, the board engaged in discussion about the logistics of putting the program together, including the required classes and the necessary budget, with the discussion being led by LHS teacher Tasha Ebeling.
There are multiple businesses throughout Liberal that have made themselves fixtures in the community as time has gone on, and Chrysler Corner at 406 E. Pancake Blvd. is among them.
2024 marks the business’s 50th anniversary of being part of Liberal, and as owner Jay Musgrave tells it, it has been quite the ride.
