USD 480 administration will be seeing some new faces in its ranks thanks to some action taken by the USD 480 school board at its most recent meeting Monday evening.
Multiple positions were approved during the meeting, beginning with the board unanimously approving a Federal Programs compliance consultant.
Southwest Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital and Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards.
The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
SWMC underwent a rigorous, unannounced survey April 15. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with hospital and ambulatory care (clinic) standards spanning several areas including leadership, medication management and rights and responsibilities of the individual.
Like many people, Amy Lujan’s career path took a different direction than expected.
Lujan was born and raised in Sublette, about 30 miles north of Liberal on U.S. Highway 83, and after getting her degree in cosmetology from Garden City Community College, she moved to Liberal. She has not left since.
Lujan said her initial move to Liberal came with a job in the billing department at National Beef, and after about three years there, she came to work at Southwest Medical Center, where she now works as an admissions supervisor.
Kansas Supreme Court Chief Justice Marla Luckert signed orders last week appointing and reappointing members to two committees, including the Municipal Court Clerks Education Committee, and one of Liberal’s own was among those appointments.
Karla Mendoza, a Liberal Municipal Court clerk, was appointed for a term that will run through June 30, 2028. Mendoza is rather new to the legal field, and she said she is honored for the appointment.
The USD 480 school board will have a busy agenda to help continue its summer work at its next meeting Monday evening starting at 6:30. Monday’s meeting will be in Room C107 of the Liberal High School East Campus.
The board will be asked to approve the renew of Canvas learning management system used at the secondary level) for $65,240.18 and a bid from Contract Paper Group in the amount of $26,871.60 for the purchase of copy paper.
