Last week saw the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of Alpha Fitness at 1010 S. Kansas Ave. Owner Yesenia Fonseca said the idea for the facility has been percolating for a while.

After much work and deliberation, a bill banning the use of cell phones and similar personal electronic devices has been signed.
Thursday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced she had signed Senate Substitute for Substitute for House Bill 2299 (Sub for HB 2299), banning the use of cell phones and personal electronic devices during the school day.

Rex Petty has been a fixture in the Liberal community and Faith Tabernacle Church for multiple decades now, and soon, he will be retiring and leaving the community.

Late March is here, and with spring officially kicking off last week, that means Easter Sunday cannot be far behind.
This year, Easter falls on April 5, and as is tradition for the holiday, many churches, schools and other organizations host Easter egg hunts for children of all ages.
This year, Liberal’s Baker Arts Center is inviting everyone to celebrate Easter with a Golden Egg Hunt Monday, March 30. Director Misty Martin said the hunt is designed specific for ages, and she promises every egg gathered will have a prize inside it.

Kansas veterans sometimes need extra help with identification paperwork, and some action taken at the state level to help with just that.
Recently, Gov. Laura Kelly signed House Bill 2274, which provides homeless veterans greater access to non-driver’s identification cards and also designates Kansas as a Purple Heart State.
