Southwest Miracles will be celebrating its 15th anniversary later this month, and they will be bringing in some musical friends to help commemorate that anniversary.

Cody Canada & The Departed will be performing at the Southwest Miracles 15th anniversary celebration Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Seward County Fairgrounds. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and tickets are $30 ahead of time and $40 at the gate. 

As Canada tells it, music has been part of his life for a long time.

Back in 2009, the world was introduced to Ryan Reynolds as the character Wade Wilson/Deadpool in the film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” a cinematic effort that did not exactly pan out well, to put it politely, for many critics.

Since then, Reynolds has more than redeemed that effort with solo outings as the character in 2016’s “Deadpool” and then “Deadpool 2” in 2018, and most recently with “Deadpool and Wolverine,” just released last weekend. My younger brother had his birthday earlier this week and while I was home last weekend, I decided to take him to the movie as an early birthday present, and we both ended up agreeing it was well worth it.

The summer reading program might be concluded for this year, but Liberal Memorial Library still has entertainment on its calendar for the community to enjoy.

Brett Crandall will be bringing his puppet show version of ‘Robin Hood’ to Liberal Memorial Library Tuesday, Aug. 6, with the show starting at 2 p.m. As Crandall tells it, he has always been a fan of telling stories.

Like many people, I was tuned into Twitter on Super Bowl Sunday to keep up with the game and during that time, there were many movie teasers and trailers also shared, with some that REALLY excited me, and some that ... didn’t.

One of the trailers that got shared was the trailer for “Twisters,” a sequel to the 1996 movie “Twister.” I freely admit one of the first thoughts I had after seeing/hearing there would be a sequel was “Okay, the first movie was cool, but were there really THAT many people clamoring for a sequel? And almost 30 years later?” Well, last Friday, I ended up taking myself to the movies to see just what the fuss would be about, and I ended up being rather pleasantly surprised.

Liberal Memorial Library has seen its share of entertainment throughout the summer thanks to its summer reading program, and the entertainment will soon continue.

Musical artist Forrest McCurren will be performing a concert at Liberal Memorial Library Wednesday, July 24, with the show starting at 6 p.m. As McCurren tells it, music has been a big part of his life for many years.
