WICHITA — One of the suspects charged in the deaths of Jilian Kelley and Veronica Butler of Hugoton has lost his bid to get a new judge assigned to the case.
Tad Cullum’s attorney filed a motion for Judge Jon Parsley to recuse himself because Parsley represented fellow defendant Tifany Adams in an unrelated case. The attorney claims that raises questions about the judge’s ability to be impartial.
At the age of 5, Lindsey Loucks moved with her family to Liberal, and it was also about that time she first developed a passion for writing.
It was not until she graduated from Liberal High School and obtained a master’s degree in library science, though, that she got serious about writing.
Now a USA Today bestselling author, Loucks said she was unsure of what specifically drove her to write, but she did recall a summer when she began writing and could not stop.
Economic development continues to grow throughout Kansas and recently, those efforts received yet more recognition.
Last Thursday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced Kansas has been recognized as an Innovation Champion, the highest-scoring category, in the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) 2025 Scorecard. This recognition highlights Kansas' commitment to innovation, economic growth, and quality of life.
TOPEKA – Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt Thursday released data on the amount paid by insurance companies for Kansas storm damage claims in 2024.
“The Kansas Department of Insurance calls on insurance companies for yearly data to better understand the impact of storm events across the state,” said Commissioner Schmidt. “The Department uses this data as a tool to monitor trends in the marketplace.”
An arrest was made late last week in what Garden City police believe to be a human trafficking case.
The Garden City Police Department issued a press release saying shortly before 6 a.m. last Friday, officers responded to the east part of town, where a woman was screaming and pleading for help, and an unidentified man was following her.
