The importance of maintaining the state’s energy grid has been a hot topic and recently, the State of Kansas announced some funding that will help with just that.
Tuesday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced 11 Kansas communities have secured more than $17 million for energy grid resilience.
United States Attorney Kate E. Brubacher announced earlier this week Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Jared Maag will lead the efforts of his Office in connection with the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program for the upcoming 2024 general election. AUSA Maag has been appointed to serve as the District Election Officer (DEO) for the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Kansas, and in that capacity is responsible for overseeing the District’s handling of election day complaints of voting rights concerns, threats of violence to election officials or staff, and election fraud, in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters in Washington.
Seward County commissioners made light work out of a few action items at the board’s most recent meeting Oct. 7.
After local 4-H youth, along with Commission Chairman Scott Carr, read a proclamation proclaiming Oct. 6 through 12 at National 4-H Week in Seward County, the commission unanimously approved Cimarron Basin Community Corrections Fiscal Year 2024 Year-End Outcome Report presented by Director Kayla Janko.
The Liberal AirFair Committee is currently planning an air show for 2025, and to help raise funds for the free public event, organizers are hosting a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Mid-America Air Museum.
Tickets are available for a $25 donation. There will be a cash payout, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and more.

The Halloween season is fully upon the area, and people will have the chance to get into the spirit early on Halloween thanks to the Liberal Noon Kiwanis Club.
This year’s Pet & Spook Parade will be Thursday, Oct. 31, with lineup starting at 4 p.m. and the parade itself starting at 4:15 p.m. Participants will line up and get their goodie bag coupons at the intersection of West Trail Street and South Lincoln Avenue near the railroad tracks. The parade will go north on Kansas Avenue and end at Tobias Park, where everyone will be able to redeem their coupons for their treat bags. Coordinators Becki Richardson and Andy Skinner said there is a lot to be excited about for this year.
