Anabel Rosario grew up in a Christ-centered pastor’s family in the Dominican Republic.
Though her family never had material abundance, she was taught God was faithful. The Rosario family featured herself, her parents and two sisters, and while her dwelling was a little stronger than cardboard, Rosario recalled her mother putting plastic buckets out to keep water from getting into the house.
Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland has announced $1.5 million is available for a fifth round of Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (HEAL) grants to revitalize dilapidated and underutilized downtown buildings in small communities across the state. These grants help close the financial gaps for communities striving to make their downtown districts economically vibrant.
Since Commerce launched the program in 2021, nearly $5 million has been awarded to fund 87 different community projects throughout Kansas.
The USD 480 school district leadership is always on the lookout for ways to build connections within the community and soon, local businesses will have that chance.
USD 480 and the Liberal Chamber of Commerce are working together for an Adopt A School program, and USD 480 Superintendent Stephen Linkous said he has actually had the idea for a while.
The Kismet Methodist Women will host their annual chicken and noodle dinner Wednesday, Nov. 13. The dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Kismet Methodist Church at 806 Main Street in Kismet. Dine-in or carry-out options for the meal will be available. The menu for the dinner will be chicken and homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, seasoned green beans, fresh garden vegetables, dinner roll, and a variety of homemade desserts. A free will offering will be taken.
Love it or hate it, advance voting is here to stay, and according to Seward County Clerk Stacia Long, it’s been growing locally.
“I’ve actually seen increased early voting for quite some time,” she said. “We had early voting across from my office when it started, and we had to move upstairs to accommodate the number of voters we had. We’ve always had pretty good early voting turnout. It’s not one party or the other, it’s all of our voters.”
