KDHE awarded grant for health care for HIV patients in rural communities

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is proud to announce that the Bureaus of Health Promotion and Disease Control and Prevention have secured a $500,000 grant for Kansas Community Health Care Workers (CHW) to provide support for persons living with HIV in rural counties. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention awarded Kansas, two other states and Puerto Rico this funding.

Baker Arts Center will be hosting another Merry and Bright Market, and Baker Arts Director Brittyn Heronemus said there is a lot to be excited about.

County to host emergency response training

Planning for emergency situations is of utmost importance, and soon, people will have the opportunity to learn about just that.

Seward County Emergency Management will be offering a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) basic training weekend at Seward County Community College Oct. 18 through 20 in the Business and Industry Building. The Oct. 18 training session will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Oct. 19 session will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Oct. 20 session will be a final exercise that will start at 1 p.m. anyone wanting to register can call the Business & Industry office at (620) 417-1170 or Seward County Emergency Management Deputy Director Tim Newman at (620) 482-0375.

Hill declares as write-in for Register of Deeds

Lina Hill has filed her intent to run as a write-in candidate for the office of Seward County Register of Deeds.

The deadline to file the affidavit of write-in candidacy for county offices is noon Monday

Register of Deeds to suspend issuing passports

From Oct. 20 through Oct. 30, the Seward County Register of Deeds office will not be issuing passports.

Register of Deeds Karen Warden said, however, workers in the office will review paperwork to make sure people have the right documents.

During this time, passports can be obtained at the Meade Public Library, the Guymon, Okla., Post Office and the Stevens County GIS Department in Hugoton.
