ULYSSES – Mildred ‘Millie’ I. (Hickey) Barbo, 87, died Friday, April 24, 2026 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. 

She was born Feb. 1, 1939 to William Lauren Hickey and Margaret Marie Best.

She grew up in Cheney, where she graduated from High School.

She married Vic Barbo June 5, 1964. He preceded her in death.

DON DUNN

ULYSSES – Don R. Dunn, 87, died April 27, 2026 at Western Prairie Senior Living in Ulysses. 

He was born Oct. 26, 1938 to Russell and Gladys (Siefkes) Dunn.

He grew up in Hudson, where he graduated from high school. He continued his education at Pratt Community College and later, Fort Hays State University.

He married Carolyn Rundell Oct. 26, 1974. She survives.

He was born Dec. 10, 1930 to William and Jessie (Martin) Oglesby.

He married Betty Baker June 12, 1952. She preceded him in death.

SANDRA SOSA

Sandra Claudette (McGillivray) Sosa, 90, died peacefully at home in Liberal Saturday, April 18, 2026 after a lengthy illness. 

She was born in Ulysses June 10, 1935, to Kenneth Dean McGillivray and Joyce Roberta Price. Sandra was a member of two pioneer families in southwest Kansas, the Kepleys and McGillivrays. Her paternal grandfather, Guy Farquhar McGillivray, was the first county clerk of Grant County.

Sandra attended schools in Wyoming and Colorado, as well as Ulysses. She was the first student to graduate from rural Red Rock School, northeast of Hickock. When her stepfather was transferred to El Dorado, Ark., she graduated from El Dorado High School in 1953.
