GUEST COLUMN, Chuck Bowman, Bee Jays Board President

The Board of Directors of the Liberal Bee Jays would like to invite you to the 2026 collegiate baseball season. We are looking forward to an exciting year.

This season will celebrate many of the baseball traditions envisioned by American League founder Ban Johnson, for whom the Bee Jays are named, and will continue the legacy of 71 summers of Bee Jay baseball in Liberal, Kansas.

We are excited to welcome back one of our former players from the 2020 season, Caden Trenkle. Coach Trenkle has enlisted two assistant coaches, Jonny Baileys as hitting coach and Gino Cozzi as batting coach. Their experience and enthusiasm will help build a winning team and create a positive experience in Liberal for players and fans this season.

L&T staff report

The Lady Redskins found themselves behind against the Campus Lady Colts in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, and despite a rally, Liberal’s season came to an end in a 4-2 loss.

The Lady Colts found momentum in the first half when a corner kick led to a goal for a 1-0 lead, and seconds later, Campus scored a second goal after the Lady Redskins turned the ball over on the first possession after the initial goal.

Lily Guy set the school scoring record with a first-half goal and tied the game in the second half, but two more corner kicks led to two more Campus goals, and Liberal’s season ended in a 4-2 loss.
