The Lady Redskin’s dominating 6-0 win over Dodge City Thursday likely locked up a home playoff game for Liberal.

The Redskins cruised to a win with two goals from Denisse Garcia and another pair of goals from Ashley Batista.

Lily Guy caught Ashley Carrillo with 49 goals in a career, and Sophie Mercado also scored.

Liberal (6-7-1) is currently the eighth seed and will likely host Haysville Campus (7-9-0).

Lady Red swimmers finish 4th in the WAC

The Lady Red swim team turned in a strong performance Thursday at the WAC Championships, finishing fourth overall with 166 team points behind solid relay performances and strong individual swims.

The Lady Redskins were led by a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, where Nathalie Ortega, Jordyn Myers, Jyzelle Juarez, and Alexis Ugalde combined for a time of 2:28.16. Liberal also earned another fifth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with Jyzelle Juarez, Lyla Anderson, Nathalie Ortega, and Alexis Ugalde finishing in 5:02.60.

Lady Redskins sweep Dodge in regular season finale

After Liberal’s sweep over Dodge City LAST Tuesday, the Lady Redskins may be positioned to face a familiar foe in the Class 6A playoffs.

The Lady Redskins ended the regular season with three straight winos over Dodge City including a 21-0 road win followed by a 7-2 win at home Thursday in Game 1 of a double headers and an 11-1 run-rule win on Game 2.

The wins pushed Liberal to 9-17 on the season, currently the 11th seed in the West Division.

Liberal will likely face the sixth seeded Garden City Lady Buffaloes in the playoffs.

The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference recognized three members of the Seward County Community College softball team with all-conference honors.

Saints drop district tourney opener to top seed Johnson

WICHITA – The eighth-seeded Seward County Saints fell 11-3 in seven innings to the top-seeded and top-ranked Johnson County Cavaliers in the opening round of the Plains District Tournament at Eck Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Seward falls to 25-37 overall on the season while Johnson County is now 57-2 and has won 41 consecutive games.

The Saints will play Hutchinson at 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in an elimination game.
