After dropping a road game earlier in the week to Great Bend by rune rule, the Lady Redskins returned home for a double header with the Lady Panthers and despite a solid effort in Game 1 of a double header, the Lady Redskins dropped both games.

Devaney Carter pitched Game 1 and kept the Lady Panthers scoreless for two innings before a pair of fielding errors led to a five-run inning for Great Bend.

The Lady Panthers pushed the lead to 8-0 with three more runs in the top of the fourth, and it appeared the Lady Redskins would get run-ruled. But the defense stiffened and only allowed one more run in the sixth inning.

The first half was dominated by defense.

Liberal had one golden opportunity when Lily Guy broke free for a one-on-one shot attempt, but the ball sailed wide.

Liberal scored a lone run in the second and led until the bottom of the fifth when the Tigers pushed six runs across the plate.

The Redskins added a lone run in the sixth and fell short 6-2.

With a strong wind blowing from the south, the Lady Redskins had an early wind advantage against Great Bend in the Western Athletic Conference opener, but they could only manage one goal in the first half, and the Lady Panthers scored twice in the second half to hand the Lady Redskins a 2-1 loss.

Liberal had breakaway chances but couldn’t get solid shots on goal while the Lady Redskin defense fought off Lady Panther attempts, and neither team could score early.

According to Lady Redskin swim coach Ismael Carrillo, the team had a great fourth meet Tuesday at Great Bend.

“We had multiple swimmers try new events and strokes for the first time this season,” Carrillo said. “With a small team of 29, we were able to secure a fifth place finish ahead of Holcomb.”

Third was Great Bend, Dodge City was fourth, and Liberal scored 234 points and was only 17 points behind in fifth.
