HUGOTON — After a rough road trip to Woodward, Okla., last week, the Lady Redskins ended a three-game skid by defeating Hugoton 65-46.

Shamari Lewis had a big night, scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the win.

The Lady Redskin defense forced the Lady Eagles into several early turnovers and converted those to points. Hugoton also struggled to shoot early, and by the end of the first quarter the Lady Redskins had a 16-5 lead.

HUGOTON — James Fieser has been a welcome addition to the Redskin lineup after missing the first three games of the season with an illness, and while he has added some offensive punch to the team, the Redskins are still struggling to slow down opponents.

Tuesday, Liberal could not find a way to slow down the Hugoton Eagles in a 63-32 loss.

With every Lady Saint scoring, the Seward County Community women’s basketball team rolled to a 100-27 rout of the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers Saturday at the Greenhouse.

Seward ended its first-half schedule winning six of its last seven games and earning its 10th win of the season. The Lady Saints did not pick up their 10th victory last season until Jan. 24. Seward is 10-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Seward County Saints fell to the Fort Hays State Northwest Tigers, 82-79, on Saturday at the Greenhouse.

The Saints suffered their sixth loss in seven games and ended their first-half schedule at 2-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Saints head to break and do not play again until Saturday, Jan. 4 at Colby. The next home game is at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 in the Greenhouse.

The Lady Redskin wrestling team continued its strong start to the seaosn with a tournament win at the Olathe Northwest Raven Mania Tournament Saturday.

Champions included Keirsie Carlile (100 lb. weight class), Genesis Orrantia (105 lb. weight class),Isabella Gutierrez (110 lb. weight class) and Hayleen Martinez (190 lb. weight class).

Isabella Gutierrez showed dominance in her weight class with five wins by fall.
