After sweeping Southwestern Heights in Liberal Monday, the Redskins drove to Dodge City for a single game and had a rough start in a 13-1 loss.
Marco Alonso couldn’t make it out of the first inning. Alonso allowed 10 runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one. Only four of the runs were earned, and Blayden Betts came in to get the final out of the inning.
Liberal Wrestling Club participated in three Freestyle/Greco tournaments this spring.
These tournaments were in Dodge City, Andale and Maize. The team will be taking wrestlers to compete at the State competition in Hutchinson this weekend. Junior and Cadet Men will compete on Saturday while the Women and 14-and-under boys compete on Sunday.
The Lady Red team traveled through the weather to make it to Great Bend for the second of their three meets last week.
“We used this meet to really focus on our relays as WAC is around the corner,” Liberal coach Ismael Carrillo said.
The team finished 8th with 59 points.
Liberal is on a four-game winning streak after getting sweeps over Holcomb and Southwestern Heights.
Liberal traveled to Holcomb Thursday and opened the double header with a 3-0 win.
Brooks Kappelmann allowed no runs on four hits and three walks while striking out 13 in six-and-two-thirds innings.
Marco Alonso had two of Liberal’s seven hits in the win.
The Lady Redskins traveled to Syracuse and split a pair of games.
Liberal opened with a 23-0 win over Syracuse.
Miley Janko had a strong game at the plate with three of Liberal’s 10 hits and three RBIs.
