Saints drop season opener to Golden Eagles

Seward County opened up their 2024 season in front of their home crowd in what ended up being a defensive battle against Laramie County, with both sides battling it out in a scoreless game before the Golden Eagles eventually snuck past the Saints back line and sunk the only goal of the game for a 1-0 win.

Seward County showed their strength on the defensive side of the ball throughout the game as the trio of Francisco Nava Gomez, Alex Woodberry, and Pepe Sanchez-Migallon, who held Laramie County scoreless throughout the first half of action. Bruno Mestres continued where he left off as a freshman a year ago with some spectacular saves to knock the ball away and keep the scoreboard even at 0-0 entering the halftime break.

Lady Saints open volleyball season with 2-2 split in Nebraska

After a rough start on Friday to begin their 2024 season, the Seward County Lady Saints Volleyball team rallied together and came back with a vengeance on day two of the McCook Invitational with a 3-0 sweep over a top 15 opponent in No. 15 Casper that was followed by a comeback victory over Laramie 3-2, with Seward County taking each of the last three sets to even out their record in Nebraska at 2-2.

Stewart takes helm of cross country at LHS

Liberal High School announced the appointment of Brianna Stewart as the new head coach for the cross country team.

Coach Stewart brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in sports coaching and management.

She will also serve as an assistant coach for the girls basketball team and as the interim alternative education teacher at Liberal High School.

Liberal High School welcomes Quint as head softball coach

Liberal High School announced the appointment of Matt Quint as its new head softball coach. Quint, a seasoned player and coach with extensive experience in both playing and coaching softball, will be leading the Lady Red softball program starting in the spring of 2025.

Matt began his athletic journey at Garden City High School where he graduated in 2002.

Bee Jays falter early at NBC tourney but rally to remain in contention

Luke Steward gave up a first-inning grand slam to the Derby Twins in the NBC World Series opener for the Bee Jays, and the Twins made it stick by handing the Bee Jays a 9-6 loss.

That’s how the NBC World Series started for the Bee Jays, and it appeared Liberal would have a short stint when the Bee Jays fell behind 6-0 to the San Diego Stars in the second game of pool play before a mad rally late led to an 11-7 win.

After giving up a first-inning grand slam in their tourney opener, the Bee Jays allowed another run in the second inning and trailed 5-0.
