ARKANSAS CITY — The Seward County Community College Lady Saints led Cowley College from start to finish en route to a 71-64 road win on Saturday afternoon.

The win got Seward back on track following a loss at Cloud County Wednesday. A poor shooting night doomed Seward in the loss against the Thunderbirds and Seward started off slow again, leading only 4-3 with under five minutes left the first quarter. But the shooting woes did not continue and the Lady Saints went on to a 16-9 edge after one quarter and held a 32-29 margin at the half.

ARKANSAS CITY — The struggles continued for the Seward County Community College men's basketball as it fell at Cowley College, 88-69, on Saturday.

After keeping the Saints kept it close in the first half, trailing only by two at the half, 43-41, it was all the Tigers in the second stanza. Cowley opened with a 5-0 run and never looked back.

All the things that went right for the No.4 Turpin Cardinals this season – sacks, blocked punts, and big plays – went wrong in a 66-18 loss to the No.3 Dewar Dragons Friday.

A fumbled shotgun snap on the first play from scrimmage followed up by a sack and a blocked punt shook a Turpin team that had steamrolled through most of their schedule. It took Dewar one offensive play to take a 6-0 lead less than a minute and a half into the game.

The Seward County Community College women’s basketball team could not survive a shooting night of under 20 percent and suffered a 57-53 road loss to Cloud County Community College Wednesday.

The Lady Saints fell to 0-1 in the Jayhawk Conference and 4-2 overall on the season. The Lady Saints next play at Cowley College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
