Wendell Emerson Bard, aka “Coach Bard”, 71, of Liberal, formerly of Oxford, Neb., passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita following a brief illness.

Wendell was born Sept. 4, 1954, at the Oxford General Hospital in Oxford, Neb. as the youngest of five children born to Melvin Emerson and Lois Wilma (Abraham) Bard. He also had a half-brother, Ramon Dawson (deceased).

Jeffrey Wade Shores, 60, died July 31, 2025 in Granbury, Texas.

He was born in 1965 to Alvin and Sandra Shores in Liberal. 

He received a business degree from Sam Houston University.

ULYSSES – Verna Greene, 91, died at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, with her family at her side.

She was born March 9, 1934 to Charles and Bernita (Marietta) Pepper.

She attended a country school in Hamilton County, then another country school in Satanta when her family moved to the Carbon Black Plant in Ryus.

She married Paul Greene. He preceded her in death. 

Dorothy Ione Holsted, 95, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2025 in Lakin.

She was born Aug. 27, 1930 to William and Effie (Garrison) Kolling.

After her children were grown, she taught computer classes at Garden City Community College, impacting many lives along the way.

She was an avid cook and gardener.
