After a slow start, the Seward County Community College women's basketball team put the clamps on Independence Community College en route to an 85-35 victory on Wednesday at the Greenhouse.

Seward improved to 6-3 in the Jayhawk Conference and 11-4 overall. The Lady Saints continue to defend their home court, remaining unbeaten in the Greenhouse at 8-0. Seward hosts Coffeyville at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Greenhouse. TopVolt Solar is the game day sponsor.

Shamari Lewis would not be denied Friday night in The Big House. Lewis found her way to the basket on drives, rebounded missed shots and put them back in the basket, and found herself at the free throw line en route to scoring 32 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and leading Liberal to a 73-44 win over Great Bend.

Liberal jumped out to a 5-0 start before the Lady Panthers answered with a 5-0 run for a tie.

But Lewis scored the next nine points for Liberal, and by the end of the first quarter the Lady Redskins had a 16-13 lead.

Great Bend may have set the record for the number of dunks in a single game against the Liberal Redskins.

Liberal had no answer on defense to stop Ian Premer, who scored 30 points and led the Panthers to an 89-42 win over the shorthanded Redskins.

Liberal started three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior against the Panthers in the first game after the holiday break, and the younger Redskins struggled to land shots and get back on defense in transition which led to a  number of uncontested dunks and layups for the Panthers.

The Lady Redskins continued to dominate on the mat Thursday in a dual against Ulysses while the Redskins fell short against the Tigers.

The Lady Redskins swept the lower weight classes beginning with Kiersie Carlile and continued to build on their early season momentum with a 72-12 win.

The Lady Redskins already have two tournament championships and have continued to dominate opponents. Thursdays performance against Ulysses was another step forward in the program.
