The Seymour Rogers Apaches started the football season with a pair of wins Thursday over the Comanche Coyotes.
The seventh grade Apaches opened the season with a runaway 46-0 win.
The Apaches relied on Aidan Aragon and Kaden Olvera to move the ball behind a line that opened holes and provided down field support for huge gains.
Seward County made its 2024 debut this past Sunday and once again stepped on the home field for a tough match-up against Kansas City Kansas, where the Saints held strong with the Blue Devils through all 90 minutes of action and had a chance late in the final minute to put themselves on the board, but could not connect as they finished with a 0-0 result in their KJCCC opener.
Seward County competed in its first conference match-up of the 2024 campaign and was finally on the home field for the first time this season and managed to put up a fight against the No. 15 Kansas City Kansas Blue Devils where throughout most of the contest, the Lady Saints held strong on both ends but could not pull off the upset in a 1-0 loss.
Seward came out of the gates with an immediate drive down the field past the Blue Devil defenders as Dayra Dinarte dribbled through the defense and found her spot for a quick shot that landed just outside of the crossbar to keep the score at 0-0 10 minutes in.
Seward County opened up their 2024 season in front of their home crowd in what ended up being a defensive battle against Laramie County, with both sides battling it out in a scoreless game before the Golden Eagles eventually snuck past the Saints back line and sunk the only goal of the game for a 1-0 win.
Seward County showed their strength on the defensive side of the ball throughout the game as the trio of Francisco Nava Gomez, Alex Woodberry, and Pepe Sanchez-Migallon, who held Laramie County scoreless throughout the first half of action. Bruno Mestres continued where he left off as a freshman a year ago with some spectacular saves to knock the ball away and keep the scoreboard even at 0-0 entering the halftime break.
After a rough start on Friday to begin their 2024 season, the Seward County Lady Saints Volleyball team rallied together and came back with a vengeance on day two of the McCook Invitational with a 3-0 sweep over a top 15 opponent in No. 15 Casper that was followed by a comeback victory over Laramie 3-2, with Seward County taking each of the last three sets to even out their record in Nebraska at 2-2.
