Defense shines but offense comes up short in 14-7 loss to Great Bend

Liberal’s defense only allowed two touchdowns Friday night against Great Bend, but the offense couldn’t sustain drives in a 14-7 loss.

The highly recruited Great Bend tight end Ian Premer had a strong first half including a 71-yard touchdown reception when he was in single coverage on the sideline and avoided an attempted tackle.

But in the second half, Premer was a nonfactor. Premer did not have a reception in the second half, and an attempted run was stopped for a two-yard loss.

Apaches complete cross country season

On a beautiful, bright October morning, the cross country Middle School Western Athletic Conference (MSWAC) meet took place at Arkalon park. The teams consisted of seventh and eighth grade girls and seventh and eighth grade boys. All the MSWAC teams tackled the two-mile course at Arkalon park.

The Apaches had 12 out of 15 athletes break their personal records on Saturday.

Moncayo breaks 2 records in 12-0 win over Hesston

Suain Moncayo didn’t just break the all-time career scoring record Thursday in Hesston. He destroyed it.

Moncayo tied Edwin Moreno with 58 goals Tuesday against Garden City, and Thursday in Hesston Moncayo broke the record with Liberal’s third goal of the game with 30:36 to play in the first half.

But that was just the beginning of the onslaught of goals for Moncayo.

Apache 7th falls 35-0, 8th loses after game called early due to darkness

A dejected team of eighth grade Seymour Rogers Apaches were stunned when a tight game was called in the third quarter due to darkness that led to a 14-8 loss to Kenneth Henderson.

The Apaches dominated most of the first half, and Francisco Cardenas game the Apaches an 8-0 lead after breaking free around the left side for a touchdown after catching a key third-and-15 pass for a first down earlier in the drive.
