Redskin soccer dominates 2nd half in 5-0 win at Lamar

After suffering a 1-0 loss to Dodge City and a 1-1 tie with Garden City, the Liberal Redskin soccer team traveled to Lamar, Colo., and came away with a 5-0 win.

The Redskins dominated shots on goal in the first half but couldn’t score. Liberal outshot Lamar 15-1, but the two teams headed to halftime tied 0-0.

Suain Moncayo finally found the net 3:45 into the second half to give the Redskins a 1- lead.

Jaden Gonzalez sent a pass to Moncayo 12 minutes into the second half for a goal and a 2-0 lead.

Late foul leads to loss for the Saints against Barton County, 2-1

Seward County continued their long road stint on Wednesday with a three-hour trip to Great Bend where the Saints faced the Barton Cougars in a Jayhawk matchup where an exchange of goals in the first kept the scoreboard even before a late foul from the Saints led to a made penalty kick from Barton to take the lead and eventually the game 2-1.

Warriors earn cross country medals at Ulysses

Tuesday the Eisenhower cross country traveled to Ulysses to compete. The Warriors had a very successful day racing. The Warriors who medaled were Gentry Carter who placed 14th in the seventh grade girls two mile, and Sophia Mercado placed fourth in the eighth grade girls race.

For the boys Brandon Maldonado placed eighth, Jacob Garcia placed ninth, and Elijah Denoyer placed 13th in the seventh grade race.

In the eighth grade boys race Alexis Landa placed fifth, and Eric Baeza placed 11th. Out of 11 teams, the seventh grade girls finished fourth, the seventh grade boys took second, and the eighth grade boys and girls each finished second.

Apaches earn cross country medals at Ulysses

The Seymour Rogers cross country teams did extremely well on Tuesday in Ulysses. The boys’ seventh and eighth team and the girls’ seventh and eighth team had a combined score and placement in the two-mile course.

The Ulysses Cross Country meet had a field of 105 boys. The Apache boys placed ninth in the team standings and were led by Chance Macy who placed 34th with a time of 15:28.

Macy was closely followed by Jaxon Schwindt in 37th with a time of 15:44. Next up was Alexander Lux with a time of 16:43. Leo Castillo finished next for the Apaches with a time of 17:38 and on his heels was Joel Nevarez at 18:07.

No.4 Cards bully Bison, 54-6

The Turpin Cardinals moved to 3-0 with a dominating performance at Buffalo. The Cardinal offense racked up 330 yards on just 30 plays and the defense held the Bison to only ten total yards in a 54-6 mercy-rule win.

Turpin wasted little time, taking a 36-0 lead in the first quarter, including a 52-yard punt return TD. Turpin led 42-0 before a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown allowed the Bison to get on the board before the half. The Cardinals added another score in the third quarter. In the fourth, Jaxon Lehnert blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to end the game.
