After scoring a major win over Dodge City Tuesday, the Redskins suffered a setback Thursday when they dropped a Western Athletic Conference game to Garden City, 1-0.

The Redskins had a slow start on their home field Thursday, and the Buffaloes spent the first 20 minuets controlling the ball and keeping the pressure on the Redskin defense.

The Redskins struggled to get the ball by the Buffalo midfielders and didn’t have very many scoring opportunities early.

The Seymour Rogers eighth grade Apaches suffered their first loss of the season to Dodge City, 20-0.

The Apaches moved the ball in the first half, but drives stalled.

The Cardinals put together a scoring drive early in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead, and neither team scored again until the final play of the first half when the Cardinals fumbled in their own backfield but picked up the loose ball and scampered 42 yards for a touchdown.

The seventh grade Apaches played with five players out for the season due to injuries, and Dodge City was able to come away with a 42-6 win. Gabriel Rodriguez scored for the Apaches.

In recent years, the road to the Western Athletic Conference soccer championship has gone through Dodge City. Tuesday, the Redskins made a major step forward in chasing the WAC title with a 3-1 road win over the Red Demons.

The game lived up to the hype of two teams that have started off the season hot and played some very close and intense games over the last few years.

The first half was back and forth with both teams only coming up with a couple shots on goal and a lot of physical play. When the horn sounded to end the first half the score was 0-0.

The Lady Redskin volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak with a 3-1 win over Guymon Tuesday night in The Big House.

Liberal opened the season with losses to Salina Central and Wichita East before scoring a win over Wichita Heights Aug. 30.

Since then, the Lady Redskins have struggled with losses to Wichita North, Hutchinson, Haysville Campus, Garden City, Great Bend and a close home loss to Lamar, Colo., a week ago in a five sets.
