Lady Saints basketball picked 7th in preseason poll

The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 women's basketball preseason poll has been released, and the Lady Saints have been picked to finish seventh ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Seward is picked to finish seventh in the 13-team league. Reigning Region 6 and KJCCC champion Dodge City was picked to repeat followed by Hutchinson and Coffeyville in second and third.

Redskins squeak by Great Bend to set up key clash with Red Demons

After a split weekend in Dodge City against Kapaun and Olathe North, the Redskins headed to Great Bend Tuesday needing to win to keep their hopes alive of a top four finish in the Class 6A West Division for playoff seeding.

The Redskins were able to escape with a 1-0 over the Panthers.

Diego Pavia provided Liberal’s only goal in the game in the first half, and the defense was able to shut out the Panther offense.

The win provided a sweep for the Redskins over the Panthers including a home 7-0 win over the Panthers earlier this year.

Carr finishes season at State for Lady Redskin golf

HESSTON – The KSHSAA 6A State Golf Tournament took place at Hesston Golf Course in Hesston Oct. 20 and 21. Liberal sophomore Scarlett Carr qualified for State and represented the Lady Redskin’s program on a blustery day in central Kansas.

Twelve teams and 20 individuals from assorted schools qualified for the 2025 State Tournament for a field of 90 golfers. The WAC was represented by Garden City’s team of six, Liberal’s Scarlett Carr, and Dodge City’s Breckyn Putnam and Alexis Cunningham.

Tafoya takes off against Tigers

Xavier Tafoya had a career night against the ulysses Tigers on Homecoming night, rushing for 239 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries to lead the Redskins to a 38-8 win.

Tafoya averaged more than 11 yards per carry, and delivered crushing blows when he was tackled.

Late in the fourth quarter Tafoya suffered an injury, and his status for Friday night’s key match-up with Western Athletic Conference opponent Hays was unknown.

Tafoya scored Liberal’s first score of the game on a 14-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.

Redskin soccer goes 1-1 in Sunflower Showdown

Dodge City hosted the Sunflower Showdown on October 17th and 18th that brought both Liberal and Dodge some new schools they don’t normally get to play in Kapaun Mt Carmel and Olathe North.

Liberal faced Kapaun on Friday to kick off the event. Kapaun got on the scoreboard quickly at the 4:46 mark with a free kick that found the back of the net from 35 yards out that was placed perfectly at the top of the goal to make the score 1-0.
