Seward 80, Otero 71

Avery Marchino scored a career-high 29 points, and the Seward County Lady Saints defeated the Otero Rattlers 80-71 on Saturday evening in The Greenhouse.

Seward (3-0) won its home opener in Game 2 of the Seward Classic. It marked the second time this season that Seward has defeated Otero after winning 91-85 in overtime on Oct. 31 in La Junta.

Marchino finished with 29 points and seven rebounds while Kimora Fagan stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals to pace Seward.

Saturday the seventh grade Eisenhower Middle School Lady Warriors basketball team traveled to Hays to play two games against Great Bend and Hays.

To begin the day the Lady Warriors took on a strong skillful Hays team. The Ladies competed hard but lost 60-19. Leading the way for the Lady Warriors was Vanessa Mendoza 11 points.

The second game the Ladies came out on fire against Great Bend and dominated from start to finish. The Lady Warriors ended up winning by a score of 41-19. Leading scorers were Charli Parsons with 12 points, Emily Corral had 12 and Vanessa Mendoza scored 11. Mendoza also led the team with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

COLBY – Seventh seeded Seward volleyball traveled to the Colby Event Center for the Region 6 opening round on Wednesday evening, falling 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 20-25) to the host, two-seed Colby Trojans.

Seward ended its 2025 season with a 9-19 overall record, 6-10 mark in the Jayhawk Conference under first year head coach Jelena Cohadarevic. It marks a two-win improvement in league action from a season ago.

The Lady Saints split the regular season with the Trojans, with each team winning at home.

Thursday, the seventh grade Lady Warriors basketball team defeated Dodge City Middle School by a score of 35-17.

Leading the way for the Lady Warriors in scoring was Emily Corral with 10 points, Charli Parsons with eight, and Vanessa Mendoza with seven.

Leading rebounders were  Vanessa Mendoza with 10 rebounds, Gentry Quint had seven rebounds, and Cecilia Holder had six rebounds.

Seward County volleyball closed out the regular season at Dodge City's Student Activity Center on Saturday evening, falling 3-0 (22-25, 16-25, 20-25) to the Conquistadors.

Seward ends the regular season with a 9-18 overall record, 6-10 in conference matches. The 6-10 mark is a two-match win improvement from a season ago.

The Lady Saints now look ahead to the Region 6/Plains District Playoffs. Seward received the seven seed and will travel to Colby to take on the two-seed Trojans on Wednesday, November 5th, at 6:30 p.m. Hutchinson and Seward both finished 6-10 in league play but the Blue Dragons received the six seed due to winning more sets during the regular season over Seward. The Lady Saints and Trojans split the regular season with each team winning at home.
