Liberal High School is excited to announce Joel Plummer as the new head boys basketball coach. Plummer brings a strong background in player development, recruiting, and program leadership from both the collegiate and high school levels.

A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in sports management, Plummer earned his master’s degree in academic advising at Kansas State University while serving as a graduate assistant for the K-State men’s basketball team under Coach Bruce Weber. His duties included coordinating equipment, managing film and scouting, and helping run practices and summer camps.

Liberal High School is proud to announce the hiring of Joe Denoyer as the new head coach of the boys and girls cross country programs. A well-known community voice and longtime radio personality, Denoyer brings a passion for distance running, deep local roots, and a lifelong commitment to youth and athletics.

After rain forced a delay of Monday’s playoff game between Liberal and Wichita Northwest, the two teams continued the game at Redskins Field Wednesday, and a wild finish led to a 3-2 season-ending loss for the Lady Redskins.

The game started Monday evening at 6 p.m., but after only three minutes of play lightning caused a delay. By 8:30 p.m. it was clear the rain and lightning was going to continue for several hours, so the game was rescheduled for Wednesday.

In just one season as head coach of the Lady Redskin softball team, Matt Quint created a winning program and earned a post season win, two milestones that have been difficult in recent years.

The Lady Redskins earned the eighth seed in the Class 6A West standings and traveled to Garden City Wednesday for the Regional playoffs. Liberal faced No. 8 Wichita South in the first round, and the Lady Redskins dominated in a 15-0 run-rule win.

Liberal took advantage of eight South errors to go along with 10 hits for the win.
