Skylar Hubbard pitched his last game as a starter for the Liberal Redskins in an 11-1 playoff loss to the Maize Eagles.

The 13th seed Redskins kept the game close with the Eagles through three innings. Maize scored a run in the first inning, and the Redskins tied the game 1-1 in the third. But the Eagles blew the game open in the fourth with a seven-run inning to take an 8-1 lead.

The Eagles added two more runs in the fifth and ended the game by run rule in the sixth with a single run for the 11-1 win.

The Lady Redskins completed the three-game sweep over the Dodge City Lady Red Demons Friday at the National Beef Family Sports Complex and secured a winning season at 14-12.

Liberal had a shaky start on defense and committed several errors that allowed Dodge City to score a run in the first inning without a hit. But the Lady Redskins responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

After an emotional win over Dodge City Tuesday in a come-from behind 9-8 extra inning thriller, the Redskins only played three innings against Hays in the regular season finale Thursday in a 20-1 loss.

Having used pitching resources against Dodge City Tuesday, and starting an ailing Marco Alonso against Hays, the Redskins struggled mightily in the second inning and allowed 14 runs.

Liberal rallied from a 1-0 deficit to take a lead, but couldn’t respond to a Dodge City game-tying goal and ended in a 2-2 draw in the regular season finale.

The Lady Red Demons took an early 1-0 lead, but Lily Guy, who set the single season goal record in her freshmen season, tied the game with a goal before halftime.

The Lady Red Swim team traveled to Hays for the final meet of the season, The Western Athletic Conference Championship.

“The meet did not disappoint when it came to competition and setting new personal best records,” Liberal coach Ismael Carrillo said.

Freshman Jyzelle Juarez lead the team in points with a fourth place finish in the 100 Butterfly, mere seconds from third place, 11th in the Individual Medley, seventh in the 200 Medley Relay, and fifth in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The Lady Redskins finished fourth with 259 points, beating out Dodge City, who finished fifth.
