The Lady Red Swim team traveled to the Maize Invitational for the biggest meet of the year with more than 25 teams and more than 250 swimmers.
“This was a great meet for the team, with every swimmer achieving at least a new personal best time in one event or more,” Liberal coach Ismael Carrillo said.
Liberal finished 23rd with four points.
The Lady Redskins crossed the plate four times in the first inning to take an early lead on the road at Hays, but a rough third inning led to a 10-4 loss.
Hays committed an error in the first inning, and the Lady Redskins took advantage to jump out to an early 4-0 lead with Liberal’s first four batters (freshman Viviana Favila, freshman Haiden Lyon, senior Taylor Harding and senior Zoey Torres all crossing the plate. Torres hit a double and had three RBIs by clearing the bases and then scored herself when junior Miley Janko got a hit.
Liberal may have won a double header with Class 3A Southwestern Heights, but the Lady Mustangs won respect by pushing the Class 6A Lady Redskins.
The Lady Mustangs fell to 15-3 after the two losses to Liberal, but the Lady Mustangs still lead the Goodland Regional division by three games.
The Lady Redskins moved to 9-9, but they had to earn it.
The 2025 USAWKS Freestyle and Greco State Wrestling Tournament was held in Park City May 3 and 4. Liberal Wrestling Club took 10 wrestlers to compete.
All girls and younger boys competed Saturday with the older boys competing Sunday. Greco was first on both days with Freestyle following.
Isabela Gutierrez and Hayleen Martinez are both Greco State champions.
The Lady Red powered past the Emporia Spartans with a 3-1 victory, fueled by a standout performance from Lily Guy who recorded a hat trick to bring her season total to 24 goals.
