Lady Saints fall to Butler, 61-53

The Seward Lady Saints fell to Butler in a 61-53 road loss Wednesday.

The Lady Saints dropped to 8-7 in the Jayhawk Conference and 13-8 overall. SCCC continues its road trip with a game at Pratt on Saturday at 2 p.m.

It was a close contest with both teams battling with the outcome in doubt until the final minutes. The Grizzlies had strong first and third quarters, leading 19-15 after one, holding a 33-30 margin at the half and building a 48-40 advantage through three quarters.

The Seward Saints continued its gritty play, but it was not enough against No. 15 Butler Community College in a 60-53 road loss on Wednesday.

The Saints dropped to 2-13 in the Jayhawk Conference and 3-17 overall. SCCC travels to play Pratt Saturday at 4 p.m.

Seward was competitive, staying within range in the first half, trailing by as many as six, but managed to only be down 21-20 at the half.

Second quarter surge gives Lady Cards a happy homecoming

TURPIN, Okla.—Two 7-0 runs to start and finish the second quarter gave the Turpin Lady Cardinals the surge they needed to upset No.19 Balko-Forgan 41-37 on homecoming night.

Balko-Forgan took control of the game early with a 10-2 run anchored by a defense that stifled the Lady Cardinals. Turpin senior Macee Strain kept the Lady Cardinals within striking distance with a pair of threes that left Turpin trailing only 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.

TURPIN, Okla.— An eruption of sound from the homecoming crowd continued to escalate with each basket as Turpin clawed back from a double digit deficit. The sound hit it’s peak as the overtime buzzer sounded and the Cardinals celebrated a 60-57 win over their Beaver County rivals.

“The overall fight that the guys had tonight,” Cardinals Head Coach Tyler Karr said. “They never gave up even when we were down 12 going into the fourth. We kept playing our style with multiple presses and I feel like we eventually wore them down. We didn’t play our best game, but we did play hard.”

Slow third quarter leads to 59-52 loss of Lady Saints

The Seward County Lady Saints were undone in the third quarter and fell to Cowley Community College, 59-52, Saturday at the Greenhouse.

The Lady Saints dropped to 8-6 in the Jayhawk Conference and 13-7 overall. It was only the team's second home loss of the season, going 9-2 at the Greenhouse.

Seward begins a stretch with four of its next five games on the road, beginning with a trip to Butler Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
