Instead of heading to Cimarron on a wet Friday afternoon, the Redskins hosted the Blue Jays for a twin bill and split the double header.
The road games were moved to Liberal Friday, and Marco Alonso got the start in Game 1. He tossed two and two thirds innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking four and striking out five.
The Blue Jays and Redskins each scored a run in the first inning, but the Redskins pushed four across the plate in the second to take a 5-1 lead.
Taylor Harding had three triples and a single in the second game of a double header with the Garden City Lady Buffaloes Thursday, but the Lady Redskins couldn’t hold the lead and fell 12-10.
Liberal dropped Game 1 7-4.
Zoey Torres took the circle to start Game 1 and fought through adversity early, but the Lady Redskin defense made some miscues trying to slow down Lady Buff base runners. Overthrows allowed Garden City to move up and eventually score runs, and the Lady Redskins found themselves in a 7-0 hole.
But the Lady Redskins finally broke through with a big inning in the sixth and pushed four runs across the plate to cut the lead to 7-4.
Allie Champion relieved Torres and was able to hold the Lady Buffs scoreless in the seventh inning.
But the Lady Redskins couldn’t get answer in the bottom of the frame and fell 7-4.
In Game 2, Garden City stunned pitcher Haiden Lyon early to push three runs across the plate in the first inning, but the Lady Redskins responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and trailed 3-2. Liberal might have scored more but a base runner was caught stealing.
Liberal built a 6-3 lead after a base-clearing Harding triple, but Garden City responded with three to force a 6-6 tie.
Another base-clearing triple by Harding sparked a four-run inning, and Liberal led 10-6.
Liberal continued to lead 10-9 to start the seventh, but the Lady Buffs pushed three across the plate, and Liberal couldn’t answer in a 12-10 loss.
The Liberal Redskins continued to take their game on the road after a 13-game homestand to start the season and earned a come-from-behind win over Garden City Tuesday in a Western Athletic Conference match-up.
The win gave the Redskins a 2-1 season series win over the Buffaloes.
