Cats claw back to take down Cards in season opener

The Tyrone Bobcats turned away the Turpin Cardinals at the one yard on three drives to pull off a 30-26 come-from-behind victory, Friday night at Turpin.

With Turpin already leading, 26-22 with just over six minutes left in the game, the Cardinals were at paydirt’s door again at the Bobcat 1 yard line. But a reach across the goal line on fourth down was turned away by the Bobcats. Just two plays later, a 98-yard touchdown run gave the Bobcats their first lead of the game.

Lady Redskin golf opens in Hays

The Lady Redskin golf team traveled to Hays and Smoky Hills Country Club to kick off their season at the Hays High School Invitational Girls Golf Tournament Tuesday.

The field was 51 golfers from 11 teams in this year’s event including Atwood, Dodge City, Garden City, Goodland, Great Bend, Hays, Hays-TMP, Junction City, Liberal, Salina Central, and Salina South.

Seward volleyball downs Butler in home opener

The Seward volleyball team treated Saints fans to a thriller in in The Greenhouse Wednesday evening as the Saints erased a 2-1 match deficit to take down the Butler Grizzlies 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 25-15, 15-11) in five sets.

Seward (4-4, 1-0 KJCCC) earned the win in their home and conference opener while handing the Grizzlies (5-4, 0-2) their second conference loss of the season.

Lady Redskin tennis wins opening tournament

The girls tennis team competed in the Cimarron Classic tennis tournament to open the season and finished first with 41 points.

Individual placers include:

No. 1 Singles — Isabella Rodriguez Diaz went 3-1 taking third.

No. 2 Singles — Maliha Navarro went 2-2 taking fourth.

No. 1 Doubles — Lynette Alonso and Evelin Tarango went 3-1 taking second.

No. 2 Doubles — Giselle Mesta and Yvanna Rivera went 4-0 taking first.

Redskin soccer off to 2-0 start

Liberal Redskin started off the season with a mercy rule 8-0 win against Circle HS with 35:18 left in the second half.

After a large senior class graduated last year there was a lot of new faces contributing, but the expectations haven’t changed for the boys soccer team. Labor Day kicked off the season in the Titan Classic in Wichita.

Shots on goal came quickly, and the Circle keeper did all he could to keep Liberal off the board with a lot of good saves.

Diego Pavia got the scoring started 8:52 into the game off a rebounded shot.
