The Liberal Wrestling Club switched gears and attended a Folkstyle Tournament in Holly, Colo., Saturday. They had five wrestlers in attendance.
“This tournament really had some great competition,” coach Krista Holcomb said. “There were wrestlers from Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. Our wrestlers had some tough matches but held themselves high and battled through it,”
The Lady Red swim team traveled to Great Bend Tuesday.
“This was a great meet with tough competition,” Liberal coach Ismael Carrillo said. “Our young team continues to improve setting new personal best times.”
The team finished sixth with 156 points.
The Lady Redskins traveled to Great Bend Thursday for a double header against Great Bend and dropped both games to fall to 3-4 on the season.
Liberal had a pair of home runs in Game 1 but fell 10-6.
The Lady Redskins scored two runs in the first, but the Lady Panthers responded in the bottom of the second with five runs to take a 5-2 lead.
The Liberal Wrestling Club traveled to Dodge City April 5 for the first Freestyle and Greco tournament of the season. Liberal took seven wrestlers.
“The two guys that wrestled Greco had it tough,” coach Javon Allen said. “They combined 16U and Juniors, which made the competition even tougher. AC (Gomez) had a great performance, battling through injury and taking out many opponents that were ranked higher. Iovani (Chavez) performed very well for being an eighth grader wrestling high schoolers, placing where he did is a very proud moment for us coaches.”
Liberal had a rough day in the field and on the mound against Goddard Eisenhower Tuesday and dropped a double header to the Tigers.
Liberal committed nine errors in Game 1, which contributed to a 14-5 loss.
Blayden Betts pitched two innings and allowed two runs, neither of them earned, and Liberal trailed 2-1.
